A CLARIFICATION

10/23/2017

I was just re-reading some of the last few posts and just wanted to clarify September 13th post.

In case you didn't get what I was talking about, (wait for it) . . . that was some of my political ramblings concerning the different thoughts about restructuring out nation's health care plan. Yup, it was a political observation.

Just thought I would let you guys in on the hidden meaning, if you didn't get it. We all know that I sometimes write the oddest stuff.  Whatever.

I'VE BEEN COMPROMISED!

THE NUMBER ONE RULE OF THIEVES IS THAT NOTHING IS TOO SMALL TO STEAL.
                                                                              Jimmy Breslin

I got a phone call last night informing me that my credit card had been compromised. That means that some scumbag had gotten hold of my number and was using it . . . in San Francisco! They had purchased KFC from two different locations (I hope they choked on it!), Overstock.com, a few different small purchases, AND a phone call from a penitentiary. That's right, Folks, some criminal was using  my stolen credit card number to phone home or whatever. Of course, the card company closed that number, and I have to wait ten days or so to get a new one, but what nerve some creep has. Grrrrrrr I asked the lady helping me on the phone with this problem how someone got my number. She said it could have been compromised at a gas station, or store, or by ordering something online. Yes, I had ordered a small part from, well, . . .let's just say the nation's biggest big-box store. She said that that company makes up about 92% of the latest reports  for stolen numbers. Beware what you order online.

And our Little J was not a happy camper either!

OH, I DO need to make a slight correction from my last post. I meant to say "I don't know if any of the bodies were found."  Uh . . . if you haven't read the last entry, you may be wondering what that is all about. Go ahead, scroll back and read it. It's okay.  Hehe  I was having some trouble with my computer and it wouldn't let me go back and do corrections and it kept locking up, so I just printed it like it came out.

Our Woodbridge building is coming along quickly. The weather was fantastic until we started it. Since then it has been raining off and on and part of the site is a mudhole. Hubby put down some rock, fortunately, and that really helps.

Here is the concrete being poured. When the operator from the concrete company was getting the machine in position, he was watching the workers and accidently touched the boom to the power lines! Everything came to a stop. Concrete had been ordered and was on the way. But the pump truck company had to be called and they were going to not let that machine be used. They said it had to be taken to WISCONSIN to be checked out, 'cause if the electrical brain was screwed up, there could be a whole lot of concrete stuck in the hose of a million dollar truck. Fortunately, the company decided to let it be used. WHEW!

And, a bit of info that we all need to remember. Daylight Savings Time starts November 5th. And, it is only about two months until Christmas, so get out there and start shopping. It will be here before we know it!

IT IS ONE OF THE BLESSINGS OF OLD FRIENDS THAT YOU CAN AFFORD TO BE STUPID WITH THEM

                                                             Ralph Waldo Emerson
A real rollercoaster of events in my simple little world. Friend, Jodi, whom I have mentioned in previous logs and whom I have known since I was eleven, was back from California. What a spitfire lady! We got together with some of the "old" gang from high school (and I do mean "old"). Hehe

With Jeanie, Jodi, and Sue. Unfortunately, Sue has her left hand covered, so you can't see her beautiful new engagement ring! (Jodi and I were so impressed at it's size and sparkle, we went to Claire's Boutique and bought fake huge rings to try and compete with her. And, Sue's ring was STILL bigger than we could find!

Then, we went to Rockwood's Store which is now a museum/historical society and relived all the times we went into "Bucky's". Wow, talk about walking down memory lane.

We also met up with a bunch more kids at the friendly town bar a for supper and drinks (I, of course, drank Pepsi . . . except for the shot that my niece, Holly, bought me).
Then we gathered at one of our friend's house for an evening of food and LAUGHING! I was incredibly exhausted from all the laughing.

The gal third from the left had such an interesting story to share, that I thought maybe I would tell you all about it. Does anyone remember the report about the accident of United 811 in 1989? This lady was taking that flight from Hawaii to Australia and had boarded the plane, where she found that a man was sitting in her assigned seat, and informed her that he wasn't moving. No big deal, right? The attendant told her to just take another available seat. Shari sat down, loosely buckled her seatbelt and proceeded to plan how she was going to spend her flight time. It was like an eighteen or nineteen hour flight and she needed to spend some of that time sleeping. Suddenly, a young man's voice spoke to her from behind, "Tighten your seatbelt. You're in for the flight of your life." When Shari turned to see who was talking . . . there was no one there, not even in the aisle. She obliged and tightened the belt and then opened her book to read. The plane was flying when she heard a tremendous boom! and the side of the plane blew away. She said she remembered looking at the area where her assigned seat had been, and it had been pulled out of the plane. An attendant had been standing beside her in the aisle, facing away, when it happened, and subsequently was sucked under Shari's seat! Shari grabbed her hand, all the time thinking, "This is how I am going to die." Then, "I wonder how long I can hold this lady's hand." Very surreal, very calm, unbelievable. All this was happening as she could look down and only see sky and clouds. Well, she did manage to hang on to the lady's hand, the pilot was able to turn and fly back to Hawaii. Nine people were sucked out of the plane. Some seats were found, but I know if any of the bodies were discovered. A lot of info and pictures are on Google.

Shari says something weird or very odd occurs around the anniversary of this horrible event. One year she decided to just embrace this time and not dread it so much, and went to a grocery store to buy lobster and steak and just enjoy a beautiful meal. She entered a nice grocery store that she had never been to. As she shopped, she noticed a woman racing toward her. When the woman caught up to her she exclaimed, "Are you Shari  --------?" Shari said yes, she was. The woman said she was another attendant that had been on United 811, and shared that experience with her. As they talked, they both admitted that they had never, ever been to that grocery store before, but felt the need to go there. WOW! The woman also said that strange events happen around the anniversary for her as well.

Anyway, it was great catching up with old friends. Like the quote for this post says, I CAN AFFORD TO BE STUPID WITH THEM!

DARK TIMES< BRIGHT TIMES

10/5/2017

BAD TIMES, HARD TIMES, THIS IS WHAT PEOPLE KEEP SAYING, BUT LET US LIVE WELL, AND TIMES SHALL BE GOOD. WE ARE THE TIMES: SUCH AS WE ARE . . . SUCH ARE THE TIMES.

Well, lately this country is going through some really dark times. The Las Vegas situation is mind-blowing. It's hard to comprehend what makes a person do such awful, evil things. Whenever I watch coverage on TV, I see places where sis-in-law Nina and I walked just a few weeks ago. I am familiar with the area - in fact, we just attended a cirgue du solei performance at the Mandalay Bay Hotel where the shooter was. It makes a person think that that could have been us. Just a matter of time, logistics, and luck I guess.

Then, fortunately, there are also bright times. I saw in our newspaper that a local man won the Lottery Luck for Life second-level prize. The payout was $25,000 a year for life or cash lump sum of $390,000. The man took the lump sum which came to $273,000 after taxes. I think that was a very good choice. You see, this lucky fellow is 92 years old. I know he isn't upset about winning a boat load of money at this stage of his life 'cause it is still quite a thrill, but I am sure he is thinking, "REALLY? I sure could have used it in my earlier years, but now I'm gonna have to hurry up and enjoy it while I can."  Anyhoo, congrats to that fellow . . .  and have fun!

Materials for Woodbridge Haven got delivered the other day. Things are starting to get good now. I was thrilled to see that the delivery guy left some nice wood pallets that some of the stuff arrived on. Have you seen the articles on Pinterest about making neat things with pallet wood? I have a small stockpile of pallets to try and make some projects and signs. I found a really neat sign at the Goodwill and we will be hanging it in our building when it is done.

Yup, the first punkin picture is mine. Even enlarging the photo doesn't make it look very big. It's about the size of my hand.  Then there is Miss Jenna and her "surprise" crop. Dang! Well, there's always next year!

Here are my grandchildren (plus wonderful Austin  - Cate's guy). Yes I know that Alec looks like he is nine feet tall, but he is standing the bulging roots of that tree. And yes, I realize that I really need a haircut. The longer it grows, the thicker it gets . . . kinda.

    Janene...

... was diagnosed with breast cancer on November 11, 2013. This is a place for all of the people who love and care about her to get the information about her treatment and her personal experience of kicking cancer's ass, (sometimes from her daughter's perspective). It's hard to stand by and not be able to do anything to help. Writing gives my mom an outlet and allows both of us to share information during this time. Therefore, we blog :)
