The world breaks everyone, and afterward, some are strong in the broken places.

IT IS ONE OF THE BLESSINGS OF OLD FRIENDS THAT YOU CAN AFFORD TO BE STUPID WITH THEM

                                                             Ralph Waldo Emerson
A real rollercoaster of events in my simple little world. Friend, Jodi, whom I have mentioned in previous logs and whom I have known since I was eleven, was back from California. What a spitfire lady! We got together with some of the "old" gang from high school (and I do mean "old"). Hehe

With Jeanie, Jodi, and Sue. Unfortunately, Sue has her left hand covered, so you can't see her beautiful new engagement ring! (Jodi and I were so impressed at it's size and sparkle, we went to Claire's Boutique and bought fake huge rings to try and compete with her. And, Sue's ring was STILL bigger than we could find!

Then, we went to Rockwood's Store which is now a museum/historical society and relived all the times we went into "Bucky's". Wow, talk about walking down memory lane.

We also met up with a bunch more kids at the friendly town bar a for supper and drinks (I, of course, drank Pepsi . . . except for the shot that my niece, Holly, bought me).
Then we gathered at one of our friend's house for an evening of food and LAUGHING! I was incredibly exhausted from all the laughing.

The gal third from the left had such an interesting story to share, that I thought maybe I would tell you all about it. Does anyone remember the report about the accident of United 811 in 1989? This lady was taking that flight from Hawaii to Australia and had boarded the plane, where she found that a man was sitting in her assigned seat, and informed her that he wasn't moving. No big deal, right? The attendant told her to just take another available seat. Shari sat down, loosely buckled her seatbelt and proceeded to plan how she was going to spend her flight time. It was like an eighteen or nineteen hour flight and she needed to spend some of that time sleeping. Suddenly, a young man's voice spoke to her from behind, "Tighten your seatbelt. You're in for the flight of your life." When Shari turned to see who was talking . . . there was no one there, not even in the aisle. She obliged and tightened the belt and then opened her book to read. The plane was flying when she heard a tremendous boom! and the side of the plane blew away. She said she remembered looking at the area where her assigned seat had been, and it had been pulled out of the plane. An attendant had been standing beside her in the aisle, facing away, when it happened, and subsequently was sucked under Shari's seat! Shari grabbed her hand, all the time thinking, "This is how I am going to die." Then, "I wonder how long I can hold this lady's hand." Very surreal, very calm, unbelievable. All this was happening as she could look down and only see sky and clouds. Well, she did manage to hang on to the lady's hand, the pilot was able to turn and fly back to Hawaii. Nine people were sucked out of the plane. Some seats were found, but I know if any of the bodies were discovered. A lot of info and pictures are on Google.

Shari says something weird or very odd occurs around the anniversary of this horrible event. One year she decided to just embrace this time and not dread it so much, and went to a grocery store to buy lobster and steak and just enjoy a beautiful meal. She entered a nice grocery store that she had never been to. As she shopped, she noticed a woman racing toward her. When the woman caught up to her she exclaimed, "Are you Shari  --------?" Shari said yes, she was. The woman said she was another attendant that had been on United 811, and shared that experience with her. As they talked, they both admitted that they had never, ever been to that grocery store before, but felt the need to go there. WOW! The woman also said that strange events happen around the anniversary for her as well.

Anyway, it was great catching up with old friends. Like the quote for this post says, I CAN AFFORD TO BE STUPID WITH THEM!

    Janene...

... was diagnosed with breast cancer on November 11, 2013. This is a place for all of the people who love and care about her to get the information about her treatment and her personal experience of kicking cancer's ass, (sometimes from her daughter's perspective). It's hard to stand by and not be able to do anything to help. Writing gives my mom an outlet and allows both of us to share information during this time. Therefore, we blog :)
