JUST A'WAITING' FOR SPRING!

APRIL IS COMING UP AND IT IS AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH. HERE ARE TWO QUOTES THAT EXPRESS SOME OF FEELINGS I'M EXPERIENCING.

AS SPECIAL NEEDS PARENTS, WE DON'T HAVE THE POWER TO MAKE LIFE "FAIR", BUT WE DO HAVE THE POWER TO MAKE LIFE JOYFUL.

ONCE YOU LEARN TO APPRECIATE SMALL VICTORIES, THERE IS NO NEED FOR A FINISH LINE.

Recently, the local school kids were on Spring Break. Alec's wonderful babysitter/friend, Angela, took him to the local indoor go-carting place for an afternoon of fun. He loves to drive around the track and is thrilled if he wins his races! He is sixteen, and most boys are getting their real drivers licenses. But that is not in the cards for our guy. (Jenna took him to get an official ID card and he began to question when he could learn to "drive her car"! Again, not in the cards). So here's my story for today. I hope I get most of the facts correct, but it goes something like this.

After going "racing" several times, one of the go-cart track owners had previously told Jenna  how good Alec drove . . . not crashing into other people or hitting walls. He was really driving conscientiously. On this day, however, one of the other owners (or employee --- not sure which) approached Angela and Alec, and asked Angela if she was going to ride along with Al in the car. She told him that Alec drove himself. The man proceeded to tell her that Alec was careless, and hit other cars and the walls. Then he asked if she was going out on the track in a car, too. By this time, poor Angela was getting quite upset, since what he was saying didn't even pertain to Alec. She offered to buy a ticket and be on the track. The man indicated that if Alec was driving alone, he would clear the track so he was the only one out there, for safety reasons!? Angela said she just wanted to go in the bathroom and cry! ALEC HAD BEEN STANDING RIGHT THERE WHILE THE MAN WAS SAYING ALL THIS CRAP IN FRONT OF HIM.

Then, later, the man reappeared and said he was sooooo sorry. I don't know if he realized that he had mistaken Alec for some other kid, or if someone working with him and informed him that he was just being down right cruel with his words. Anyway, he apologized and gave Angela eight free passes. When Jenna (Momma Lioness) heard about this, she was going to stop after work and confront the idiot, but the business was closed for an evening private party. All I can say, is "watch out, buddy, she's a'comin' for ya!).

Anyhoo, Spring is officially here, but it is snowing like crazy outside.  Visual aids below:

DOES THIS LOOK LIKE SPRING TO YOU???  I DON'T THINK SO. I HAD TO REALLY PUSH ON OUR STORM DOOR, BECAUSE THE SNOW WAS SO PILED UP THAT I COULDN'T GET THE DOOR OPEN.

I sincerely apologize to those people (especially on both coasts that have really suffered with horrendous weather the last few weeks) for complaining. Ignore me. I'm a whiner. And this crap will be melted in a few days.

Then Spring?  Please.

And one more thing. I post pictures of the latest flowers I put on my parents graves, so Sisters Karen and Sandy, who both live a distance away, can check it out on this blog. Welllll . . . after seeing the photos that I took the other day, I'm thinking I better get my butt out there and fix the poor wreath. Flowers are put on crooked, and the whole thing is hanging wonky. sorry. I'll do better next time.

Janene,
Your displays on Mom and Dad's marker look very nice. I'm sure that it is difficult to keep the wind from blowing them around. I like the blue flowers.
There are always people that cannot believe that all people do not march to the same tune. Years ago, a disability would sideline worth while people. It takes awhile for some "normal" people to realize that we all have something to give. They are the ones who are not seeing the whole picture.

    Janene...

... was diagnosed with breast cancer on November 11, 2013. This is a place for all of the people who love and care about her to get the information about her treatment and her personal experience of kicking cancer's ass, (sometimes from her daughter's perspective). It's hard to stand by and not be able to do anything to help. Writing gives my mom an outlet and allows both of us to share information during this time. Therefore, we blog :)
