I waited out the basement confinement at work and then headed for her house. When I got there, I couldn't believe the damage. Even around my own house there were trees down and it was just a mess. But Mom and Dad's area was so much worse. I couldn't drive right to their house - the fire department had both ends of town basically shut down, due to power lines being down. So I maneuvered up around the corner from Mom and Dad's, and checked on Grandma. She had a window blown out in her attic that I crawled up and put a plastic bag over until Dad could get there. Then I walked to Mom and Dad's. There were trees down everywhere - including blocking all three exits from the house. We got the exits cleared, and the guys started working on getting the road cleared of trees. Wouldn't you know it, by the time they had that about done the next round of the storm came through and we had to close up shop.
I am including some pictures, which sure don't do the situation justice as being there in person does, but it gives you an idea. Mike, the kids and I went out yesterday and worked for about 8 hours helping - man the guys got a ton done with the machines, and Delaney, Mom and I got a lot done in the yard with just Woman Power :) I have a pretty wonderful and resilient family, especially in times of crisis.
Anywho, just wanted to let you all know why Madre has been away. They are still without power, but I just talked to her and she said that utility trucks were coming down the road. Hopefully they will have power today or tomorrow. Until then, they will keep the generator running and continue cleaning up.
Hope you all fared well if you are in the area!!
