LaPaloma Hats
Alec found this kinda realistic looking policeman's hat at a garage sale when shopping with friend Angela. He says he wants to be a policeman when he grows up, so he can arrest the "bad guys". Noble ambition, dear grandson.
Hubby brought me a bunch of hardhats, for our Woodbridge Haven groundbreaking pictures. In all those hardhats, there was one red one . . . Alec's signature color. These were left over from our bridge business. (Evidently, none of the men wanted a red hat. It must have been saved for one young man to wear some day).
Now, onto fried chicken. Hmmmm Have you seen the ads for those no-oil frying machines? Sisters-in-law and I each bought one last week-end. I was afraid that it was going to be another appliance that looked so nifty on TV but was really a big hoax.
The first time I used it, I fried up fish. The first batch I cooked, I made the mistake of dipping the pieces in milk and then dredging in seasoned flour before putting it in the machine. It came out looking kinda pale and unappetizing. The next batch I dredged, then dipped in milk, and then dredged again. That's way better. I should have cooked it for 17 minutes instead of 20. It came out just okay. Kinda dry. But after putting some in the fridge overnight, the next day it tasted moister and very flavorful. Who would have thought?
I also fried French fries (awesome) and chicken (very good - moist, yet well-done).
These are the dark meat pieces. Can you believe they cooked in 20 minutes? And they are the big pieces from Fareway meat counter. I just turned them once after the first 10 minutes.
I am such a slug in the kitchen, but I'm not the only one. I will share my alter ego's (Little J) opinion with you. I personally did not buy any more cookers, but SHE did. Just think, chicken in one, potatoes in the next, and a cake in the third. All done in 20 minutes.
I would like to share one more picture with you. Remember on a previous post when I related Alec's saying that he had a beautiful mind? Well, I was at his house this week and I noticed that he had been writing on the driveway with sidewalk chalk . . . and I saw this.
And, as far a politics goes, I have really tried to limit my TV time, but these are the most amazing, interesting, alarming, crazy times. I see where Steve Bannon left the White House today. It looks like a lot of things are speeding up, concerning this presidency. It is still difficult discussing politics with many people, because our views differ. Have you experienced this? Kinda sad, when you think about it. FINALLY, A HUGE HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY GAL, ABBY! LOVE YA GOD BLESS YOU ALL | |
