My good news (drum roll, please) NO ONE THAT I KNOW HAS DIED LATELY!!! That is certainly a nice change of pace, right?
Haven't done much of anything to write about that would be of much interest to anyone. It's been hot. I've been inside a lot. Alec has been hanging out with me this summer, when he's not in summer school. The girls came and spent a few days with me and that was good. I picked up the dresses that were ordered for their Dad's wedding in September. Cate's fits perfectly, but Abby's needs to be hemmed up a bit. We need to buy her some tiny heels to wear, but I'm waiting until a little bit closer to the time, in case her feet grow.
Our 45th high school reunion is coming up in a few weeks. It will be fun to see some of the "kids" we graduated with after so many years. I found some old school newspapers (The Tattler) and some odds and ends to take to share. I found the records of our Senior Slave Auction (I know that that is obsolete to call it that and probably very politically incorrect, but that's what it was called at the time). On a certain Saturday morning we seniors would stand outside the school and our family or anyone in the community would bid on us to have us do work of some kind. The money we earned was put toward our senior class trip to Chicago. As class treasurer, I noted on the tally sheet that someone unknown paid five lousy bucks for me, while Betty C.'s boyfriend/future husband sprung for fifteen dollars on her! Where was MY boyfriend - who I ended up marrying? WHERE?? I don't remember having to do any work for anyone, so it must have been someone putting in a pity bid for the girl with the skinny, weak arms.
The latest news on niece Heather is pretty good. She is healing well, resumed chemo, and has finished with that. Yup, she got to ring the bell. Her hair is coming in straight which is strange 'cause she had curly black hair. My usually straight hair came in curly, but has since gone back to straight. My hair is about 30 per cent thicker than before, so heaven help Heather if hers is thicker eventually. She had a lot going on before!!
I really must comment on a few TV commercials. I enjoy the new ones for Go Daddy. They are very clever and funny. (Go Daddy headquarters is about five miles from my front door).
The other commercial that I am mentioning is by GRACO. It shows a young mother standing by a very expensive pack-and-play/ playpen, daybed/ stroller combo thingy, and a baby is strapped into a carryall punkin seat which is sitting on top of the pack-and-play combo. The mommy decides to take baby into the kitchen with her, since baby is so comfortable in the GRACO punkin seat. This is where it gets ugly. The mommy sets the kid down on the floor by her feet as she is standing by the kitchen island cooktop. She proceeds to pull out a FRYPAN. People, she is going to fry something with her kid right next to her on the floor. What is wrong with this picture???? I was not surprised to see this week that the GRACO company has cut the commercial short now - leaving out the part where mommy gets ready to fry up some dangerous fixin's and possibly splattering the baby with a shower of grease. I guess I wasn't the only one that thought it was a wrong thing to show.
Since life has been uneventful, and I really don't have much to tell, I will leave you with another UH OH Kids ditty.
FRANCY FRY JUST LOVED TO LIE
Francy Fry just loved to lie.
She fibbed to Dad and Mother.
She made up lots of scary tales
To frighten Sis and Brother.
She told her teacher she was ten
When she is really six.
She told the next-door neighbor boy
"It's SMART to throw sharp sticks."
She lied about her middle name.
She said it was "Queen Bee".
Her mother scolded her for that.
"You know it is 'MARIE'!"
One day her parents had enough.
They said to her, "Surprise!"
"Today we're going to the fair
Because you tell great lies!"
Francy danced around in glee.
Her fibs were paying off!
She couldn't wait to ride the rides
And eat ice cream that's soft.
Then her parents shook their heads
And looked her in the eye.
"You cannot go. There is NO fair.
We just told YOU a lie!"
GOD BLESS YOU ALL
